Project Summary

Many people have a wardrobe full of clothes. They spend a lot of time choosing the outfit they want to wear for different occasions. The most common issue is remembering all dresses, shoes, pants, jeans, coats, jackets, skirts, tanks, and so on in their closet. Sometimes they might forget clothes that are their favourites. Another common issue is how to match their clothes to create a new look or style. Also, When they want to buy new items, how they might make sure it would match with other pieces in their closet.

The Solution

This project is about an app that helps users to organize their closet and carry it everywhere on their Mobile. Also, It assists users to choose the best combination of clothing among their clothes or from different online shops. It is going to solve the problem of mismatching clothes and helps the user to decide what is the best combination.

Since this is a UX course project and not an actual design project with real stakeholders involved, the solutions I provided are entirely based on the Insights I gained from user research.

Objectives

• Saving time choosing what to wear and creating the best outfits in seconds

• Planning what you are going to wear and when

• Checking before buying any clothes, to ensure if it matches your other pieces and you don't have a similar item already

• Getting help from a stylist

• Sharing your clothes image from your wardrobe or your outfits with your friends

• Digitize your closet via taking the pictures of your clothes, shoes, bags and accessories and store them in the app

Competitors

I searched for competitors in order to find similar products and see if their designs and functionalities meet user needs for this type of app. Name of 3 existing apps that have similar idea to my app :

Stylicious: Helps users organize their closet but also delivers tips from stylists on how to create new looks.

Stylebook: Create a digital version of the user closet. Adding photos of user clothes and categorising them for different occasions.

Closet+: It lets users categorize clothes by individual piece or entire outfits, and truly creates a digital version of their closet.

User Research

I conducted semi-structured interviews with 7 participants 3 men 4 women aged from 20 to 30, to build empathy with them and fully understand their needs, frustrations, hopes, limitations and goals. It was more of a casual conversation, and questions that I had prepared before, were mainly around how they organise their wardrobe. Do they manage their clothes based on the season or based on what matches to the other? Do they remember every item in their closet? Also, some other related questions to understand their needs.

Findings:

• All of them care about their look and style.

• Some of them are always concerned about not having enough clothes and they tend to keep shopping regularly.

• Women mostly decide earlier what they are going to wear for different occasions and spend more time choosing the best combination of their clothes.

• Both women and men had this experience that they discovered a clothes that they totally forgot they had – they were hidden under other clothes.

• Some of them always have this concern, how to match their clothes in a way that avoids colour-clashes.

• Number of them didn't know how to colour match their outfits.

• Few of them avoid wearing colourful clothes because they are not sure how to match them.

Persona

I created a fictional character based on the data I gathered from my user research to represent the target user that might use this type of app.

User Flow Diagram

I made a user flow in order to represent user interaction with the app visually.

Low Fidelity Wireframe

Based on the user flows that I provided before, I created a low-fidelity Wireframe to get an idea about overall structure, content, elements that are needed in each screen.

High Fidelity Wireframe

In this step, I tried to figure out if the ideas work and if they make sense. So I built the high-fidelity wireframe with brand colours applied and made it an interactive prototype in “InVision” software. Then I interacted with the prototype just like a user to make sure these features function well.

Learnings

I faced many questions and challenges while I was working on the design solution for this Closet Management App. These are some of my learning along the way:

I had to look into similar apps available in the market and try to understand how different features and functions work.

Most interesting feature was the payment and shipping system inside the mobile app.
